Confirmed or Busted?

On Monday, December 15th, my Education and Training class went to the Fort Worth museum of Science and History. There we visited the Mythbuster's exhibits and there where 3 activities that stood out to me. In response to Kallas-thenics, here is my 3 favorite activities at the museum

  1. Tablecloth Chaos- the objective was to pull the tablecloth out from under a table full of dishes. I learned that Newton's First Law of Physics states that the dishes will stay there unless an external force acted on it.
  2. Change Like a Superhero- the objective was to go in to a photo booth and change into a superhero costume as fast as you can. I learned that Chelsea, even with one hand broken, can change into a superhero faster than me.
  3. Running in the Rain- the objective was to walk or run through a tunnel and figure out if you get wetter while walking or running then you could go under a black light to see where the rain hit you. I learned that you get wetter while running.

Humor

Humor in the classroom

Humor is a big influence on me, I respond better in classroom situations with humor. My favorite teachers have been teachers that can teach well and incorporate humor. The best example of a comedian/teacher I've had is my physics teacher. My physics teacher has a sense of humor that is similar to his audience, juniors in high school, and he was able to relate to his students.

Mirror, Mirror...

In response to Mirror, Mirror...,
1. I competed in the Chapter Yearbook competition.
2. For our classroom preparation we cut, glued, pasted, copied, and printed borders, pictures, and captions on to pages. We gathered outside of our classroom time to help complete our project. If we could do anything differently, we would start working on the yearbook sooner.
3. Our competition went very well. The judges seemed to enjoy our yearbook and seemed to be able to understand what was going on throughout the book. To complete our yearbook, we still need to add pictures of upcoming events we have planned.
4. From this experience, I learned that procrastination is the enemy and to start on a project as soon as possible.
5. I feel like that I would receive an 100. I contributed as much as I could while on Saturday.
6. If the yearbook advances to State, then our group will continue to add pictures, captions, and events we will do in the future. For myself, I will help place these items on the the pages along with the rest of my group.

What Would You Do?

In response to the blog What Would You DO? I choose to reply to scenario 2.

The Scenario is: You are at your EAT field site.  Although you know you are supposed to have your phone put away at your field site, you check it and see that you have a message from another intern in your class.  He said that he had an early dismissal and left the field site campus just a little early, but when he did, he forgot to sign out.  You think this is a bit strange because you never saw him ride the bus to your field site in the first place, but you agree to sign him in and out because you want to let him know he can trust you.  After all, Mrs. Meddlesome, your EAT teacher, stressed that it is important to establish relationships with your students and others with whom you work.

In this scenario I would have not signed him out because, if he was never on the bus then he should not receive credit for being at his field site. Trust is an important relationship to have with your fellow staff but in dishonesty is not the way to establish it.

How to Thrive During Your Field Experiences

Having read the article "How to Thrive During Your Field Experiences," I have assessed what will be the easiest and the hardest things for me in my field-site experiences.

Easiest:

The easiest for me to perform will be professionalism.

  •  I believe professionalism in your work attire is very important because it establishes a professional relationship.
  • Proper attire makes you look like you are qualified to perform your job.
  • Late arrivals will never be a problem for me because being late gives me a very unsettling feeling.

Hardest:

The hardest for me will be reflection.

  • The awkwardness of having to record myself then go back and watch myself will be very uncomfortable at first, but hopefully after many trial and errors I will adjust.

Nerves:

What makes me most nervous about my field-site, is getting up in front of my class and freezing. Stage fright has always affected me, but when I get comfortable around a group the fear goes away.
